Bhubaneswar: In a landmark event, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the Odisha Legislative Assembly on the inaugural day of the winter session this evening. In her address, President Murmu implored parliamentarians to commit themselves to uplift the lives of citizens and facilitate a thriving Odisha by 2036, coinciding with the state's centenary.

Highlighting the rich natural and human resources of Odisha, President Murmu stressed the state’s potential to emerge as a frontrunner in India’s growth narrative. She urged the Assembly members to pursue inclusive development and adopt policies that cater to every societal segment.

Reflecting on her political past, President Murmu conveyed that speaking in the Odisha Assembly evoked deep nostalgia for her, as she began her journey as a member here around 25 years ago. During her visit, she revisited the chamber where her career took off, cherishing memories from her early political days. The President expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the Odisha Legislative Assembly, acknowledging its role in crafting her trajectory to the nation’s highest constitutional office.

This momentous occasion also marked a historic first, as President Droupadi Murmu became the first sitting President of India to speak before the Odisha Legislative Assembly. Her presence was not just a source of pride for the Assembly but also a significant reminder of Odisha’s advancing journey towards development.

President Murmu’s vision painted a picture of a robust, prosperous, and citizen-focused Odisha. She encouraged lawmakers to prioritize development initiatives, reinforce governance structures, and ensure equitable distribution of growth benefits across the state.
