Paquetá criticizes FA for inadequate support following red card against Liverpool

In a heated response to his dismissal during West Ham's 2–0 defeat to Liverpool, midfielder Lucas Paquetá expressed exasperation with the Football Association for failing to support him throughout a lengthy investigation that negatively affected his career.

Paquetá received a red card in the second half following two quick yellow cards for dissent, a reaction that seemed to unveil months of pent-up frustration.

The Brazilian was under investigation for two years as the FA looked into allegations regarding intentionally seeking bookings tied to questionable betting practices. Although he was exonerated in July, the extended scrutiny hampered a significant transfer opportunity and took a toll on his mental health.

After the game, the 28-year-old took to social media to share the emotional burden of the situation.

“It’s difficult to cope with everything that has impacted my life and state of mind,” he stated. “I’ll strive to ensure it doesn’t affect me further. While this doesn’t excuse my sending-off, I owe an apology to the fans and my teammates.”

His frustration was exacerbated when a commentator branded his actions as “absurd.” Paquetá countered that his on-pitch reaction was shaped by the stress he had faced during the investigation.

“It’s absurd for one’s life and career to be impacted for two years without any psychological assistance from the federation,” he said. “Perhaps my actions reflect the difficulties I’ve endured. I apologize for not being flawless.”

West Ham is anticipated to address the midfielder’s suspension in the upcoming week.
