Pakistan Enhances Military Presence in Saudi Arabia

Post by : Shakul

In a significant military move, Pakistan has dispatched thousands of troops, fighter jets, and sophisticated air defence systems to Saudi Arabia, following a secretive defense agreement between the two nations. This development comes amidst increasing tensions in the Middle East related to the ongoing conflict with Iran.

Sources from security and government sectors indicate that around 8,000 military personnel have been sent, along with nearly 16 aircraft, predominantly JF-17 fighter jets, which were developed in partnership with China. Additionally, reports suggest that two squadrons of drones and a Chinese HQ-9 air defence system are part of the military assets sent.

The deployed equipment and systems are being managed by Pakistani forces, with funding provided by Saudi Arabia. Officials acquainted with the situation characterize this deployment as a combat-ready unit aimed at bolstering Saudi Arabia's defenses against potential threats.

While this troop deployment is largely intended for advisory and training purposes amid the ongoing conflict, Pakistan has already had military personnel stationed in Saudi Arabia under earlier agreements. This latest action significantly broadens their presence due to the escalating instability in the region.

The undisclosed defense arrangement between the two countries supposedly accommodates the potential deployment of up to 80,000 Pakistani troops if necessary. Some officials have alluded to the possibility of deploying Pakistani warships, although this has not been independently verified.

This development occurs at a crucial time, as Pakistan is also seen as a vital mediator in the Iran conflict, having previously facilitated discussions between the United States and Iran and playing a key role in securing a temporary ceasefire in the area.

The international community has taken notice of this military deployment due to its scale and Pakistan’s dual role as a mediator and military supporter of Saudi Arabia. As of now, neither nation has officially reacted to the unfolding reports.
