Thirteen Militants Arrested in Pakistan Linked to TTP

Post by : Shweta

In a significant operation, Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has successfully apprehended 13 militants, primarily affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), during intelligence-led initiatives across the Punjab province. Authorities indicated that these arrests were crucial in preemptively averting a potential terror assault targeting law enforcement and key establishments in the area.

The CTD disclosed that the operations unfolded over the past week in various cities following intelligence reports alerting them to questionable militant activities. Security teams executed approximately 58 targeted raids throughout multiple locations, resulting in the detention of the suspects. The individuals apprehended are believed to have connections with extremist organizations, predominantly the TTP, notorious for a series of violent incidents in Pakistan over recent years.

Among the key detainees is Mukhtar Ahmad, captured in Lahore. Described as a significant member of the TTP, he is alleged to have been in possession of a substantial stash of explosive materials. Throughout the operations, authorities also seized explosives, detonators, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), prohibited literature, mobile devices, and other items thought to be involved in terror scheming.

The CTD reported that these militants were preparing attacks on security locations and government establishments in Punjab. Timely intervention was crucial, as it thwarted what might have been a severe terrorist incident. Cases have been initiated against all 13 individuals, with ongoing investigations aimed at locating additional members and supporters tied to their network.

In recent years, Pakistan has witnessed a surge in militant violence, particularly in regions adjacent to the Afghanistan border. The TTP has amplified its strikes against security forces and civilian areas since the Taliban regained control in Afghanistan in 2021. Pakistani officials have emphasized that extremist factions are seeking to broaden their operations domestically, prompting a surge in counter-terrorism initiatives.

Experts assert that these arrests mark a critical measure towards dismantling militant infrastructures within Pakistan. Officials reiterated that collaborative intelligence efforts and ongoing operations will persist across various provinces to deter future aggressions and bolster national safety. The government has pledged firm actions against all organizations banned for their involvement in terrorism and extremist behavior.
