Karung Onler Denies Mary Kom's Financial Accusations Amid Divorce Drama

Karung Onler Denies Mary Kom's Financial Accusations Amid Divorce Drama

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Karung Onler, the ex-husband of Olympic bronze medalist Mary Kom, has vehemently rejected her accusations that he defrauded her of substantial amounts of money and mismanaged property acquired with her earnings. He has labeled her statements as unfounded and leveled his own serious allegations against the renowned boxer.

In a discussion with IANS, Onler shared that their marital issues can be traced back over ten years. He specifically referenced a supposed affair between Mary Kom and a junior boxer in 2013, which he claims escalated tensions between their families.

Onler went on to assert that since 2017, Mary Kom has been involved with someone linked to the Mary Kom Boxing Academy. He claims to have WhatsApp conversations and other forms of evidence but chose to refrain from speaking out for years in order to keep the family intact.

While Onler expressed no grudge against Mary Kom for moving on post-separation, he strongly contested the false allegations of financial impropriety laid against him.

"She may remarry if she wishes. However, I do not accept unfounded accusations," he stated, challenging Mary Kom to present proof to back her allegations of theft.

Questioning the claims of his presumed wealth, Onler highlighted his current situation of residing in a rented home in Delhi and invited scrutiny of his financial status.

"She asserted I misappropriated ₹5 crore. If that's accurate, I challenge her to provide evidence. My living conditions clearly don't reflect financial affluence," he argued.

Onler also responded to claims of property disputes, suggesting that any alleged land transfer would be supported by legal documentation from Mary Kom. He mentioned that while they have divorced, the related legal matters are still unresolved.

He emphasized that he aimed to avoid public legal disputes for the sake of their children, decrying the harmful nature of public allegations.

Onler maintained that he significantly contributed to Mary Kom's career and was instrumental in establishing the Mary Kom Boxing Academy, expressing feelings of being mistreated and abandoned.

On the topic of their children, Onler affirmed his rights to be involved in their upbringing, dismissing claims of being the sole one with alcohol issues and arguing that such personal matters should not have been publicized.

He went further to assert that despite sustaining injuries before the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Mary Kom traveled to Mumbai and continued another relationship, claiming to have proof of this.

Mary Kom and Onler tied the knot in 2005 and are parents to four children, with their divorce finalized in 2023.

Previously, Mary Kom accused Onler of abusing her trust, claiming he mismanaged her assets, took out loans secured against her property, and caused her financial losses in Manipur. She reported that she became aware of these issues while recovering from an injury before the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Mary Kom indicated her desire for the divorce to remain private but felt compelled to speak publicly following what she described as a year-long campaign to discredit her.

Both parties have vehemently denied each other’s accusations, further intensifying public interest in their ongoing dispute.
