Fire Erupts in Andhra Pradesh Due to ONGC Oil Well Blowout

Post by : Mina Rahman

A significant gas leak from an ONGC oil well caused widespread alarm in Andhra Pradesh's Konaseema district on Monday after an unexpected blowout ignited during repair work.

The occurrence took place at an oil well situated in Irusumanda village under the Razole mandal. Officials reported that production had been temporarily halted for repairs using a workover rig when a violent blowout unleashed a considerable amount of gas combined with crude oil, propelling it into the air.

The escaped gas quickly caught fire, sending flames soaring and startling local residents. Dense clouds of gas and smoke enveloped Irusumanda and neighboring regions, resembling thick fog and significantly diminishing visibility.

In response, local authorities broadcast urgent announcements through loudspeakers, cautioning residents across at least three nearby villages against using electric appliances or igniting stoves to avert further ignition risks.

Panchayat officials and district administrators urged villagers to evacuate without delay. Many residents hurriedly departed, relocating their livestock and essential belongings to safer areas amid growing tension.

ONGC's emergency response teams promptly arrived at the scene to manage the gas leak and tame the fire. The affected perimeter was sealed off, and constant monitoring is being conducted to avert escalation.

Senior officials from the district administration, along with ONGC engineers, are currently on-site overseeing all safety measures and containment initiatives.

ONGC plays a significant role in the Krishna-Godavari delta area, extracting natural gas, crude oil, and other hydrocarbons through both onshore and offshore operations. The company's extensive network of pipelines ensures connectivity for processed gas distribution and crude oil refining.

Authorities confirmed that emergency protocols remain activated until the situation reaches full stabilization.
