UAE's Omar Al Marzooqi Triumphs at Lisbon Grand Prix

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi from the UAE showcased exceptional skill to clinch victory at the CSIO3* Lisbon Grand Prix, hosted at the historic Sociedade Hípica Portuguesa.

With his horse Chacco Bay, Al Marzooqi executed one of only two double-clear rounds on Bernardo Costa Cabral's challenging 1.55m course. He dominated the jump-off, finishing with a blazing time of 38.43 seconds.

Edouard Chauvet from France claimed the second spot aboard Zia Mia de la Bonn Z, while Duarte Seabra of Portugal secured third place.

This marks the second Grand Prix win for Al Marzooqi and Chacco Bay, reinforcing their status as a prominent duo in the UAE's international show jumping scene. Al Marzooqi is currently positioned within the top 10 of the FEI U25 rankings.

The competition was part of the revitalized CSIO Lisbon, with the support of Al Shira’aa Stables, a pivotal player in reintroducing high-level international events to Portugal.

In the aftermath of his victory, Al Marzooqi expressed how meaningful this win is, particularly at a historic venue that has been revived after a hiatus, showing gratitude to Al Shira’aa for their unwavering support.

Sami Kettle, Director of Global Operations at Al Shira’aa, commended Al Marzooqi's remarkable performance and emphasized the significance of teamwork and ongoing development of equestrian talent in the UAE.

This win aligns with the broader vision of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who has been pivotal in nurturing the growth of equestrian sports and revitalizing historic international competitions.

Moreover, Al Shira’aa has committed to reviving the Lisbon Nations Cup starting in 2026 through a five-year agreement, further solidifying its role in European equestrian sports.
