The Lego Group from Denmark is making a significant move into the realm of global sports by introducing an exciting collaboration that highlights some of football's most illustrious stars.
To commemorate the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the company will launch a series of exclusive Lego sets inspired by icons including Vinicius Jr., Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The collaboration features seven distinct sets, with four alphabet-shaped designs representing each player priced at $29. Additionally, premium versions of the Ronaldo and Messi figures will be available for $79.
Among these offerings is a special 1,427-piece 3D wall art set featuring Messi's iconic goal celebration pose, retailing at $179. Each set is designed to include mini-figures of the players, making them accessible to younger fans and avid collectors alike.
Lionel Messi, discussing the partnership, pointed out the parallels between the spirit of football and Lego play, noting the emphasis on imagination, exploration, and experiential learning. He mentioned that the sets embody memorable on-field moments in a playful and creative manner.
Vinicius Jr., who represents Real Madrid, shared his aspirations that this initiative would foster creativity and inclusivity among young fans globally. Reflecting on his upbringing, he recounted how Lego played a pivotal role in cultivating his creativity, despite the challenges he faced.
Founded nearly 100 years ago, Lego is actively diversifying its offerings by aligning with significant global sporting occasions. Last year, they enjoyed success in motorsports by crafting fully operational Formula One vehicles for the Miami Grand Prix.
As part of its forward-looking strategy, Lego intends to expand its football-themed offerings leading up to the 2026 World Cup, which will include interactive fan zone experiences aimed at engaging supporters worldwide.
