X Experiences Major Global Outage Affecting Users Worldwide

Post by : Shweta

On April 20, 2026, the social media platform X faced a significant global outage, disrupting service for thousands internationally. Reports from Downdetector indicated that more than 14,000 users encountered problems accessing various features of the platform.

The issues became noticeable at around 1705 GMT, with users across different regions unable to load feeds or access timelines effectively. Many also experienced challenges with the mobile app and web version of X.

According to Downdetector’s data, nearly 48 percent of complaints were linked to feed and timeline failures, while 33 percent reported app-related issues, and 12 percent faced website access problems. This data points to a widespread malfunction that affected multiple functionalities simultaneously.

Since Downdetector relies on user submissions for data collection, the actual number of affected individuals may be far higher than reported. Such outages often impact a broader demographic than initial figures indicate.

Currently, there has been no official statement from X regarding the root cause or the duration of the disruption, leaving users in uncertainty.

These types of outages significantly hinder communication, news dissemination, and business activities, as countless users depend on X for constant updates and social engagement. During disruptions, users frequently turn to alternative platforms to voice their concerns, which only amplifies the issue’s visibility.

This event underscores the difficulties that prominent digital platforms face in maintaining reliable global services and the extensive ramifications of outages when they occur.
