A man, aged 34, has been sentenced to 11 months in jail for trying to rob a woman at the parking lot of Columbia Asia Hospital in Bukit Jalil. This incident, occurring in daylight, has raised alarms regarding public safety in hospital parking areas in Kuala Lumpur.

Police reported that the attempted robbery occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. on May 18 when the suspect confronted a 26-year-old woman inside her vehicle. The man forcefully opened the car door, intending to grab her mobile phone before attempting to flee with her handbag.

A confrontation ensued as the woman fought back against the suspect and called for assistance. The suspect managed to escape on a motorcycle without any stolen goods, and fortunately, no losses were reported.

Mohd Rosdi Daud, the Cheras police chief, stated that the D9 Serious Crimes Investigation Division launched an operation promptly after the incident. The suspect was apprehended later in the Brickfields area at approximately 5:36 p.m. on the same day.

Further inquiries showed that the accused has a significant criminal background, having 11 previous convictions. Law enforcement also seized items linked to the crime, including a motorcycle, a helmet, and a jacket associated with the suspect.

Charged under Section 393 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery, the man pleaded guilty in court and received an 11-month sentence. Officials credited the rapid arrest to effective police collaboration and public support.

This incident has reignited discussions about personal safety in parking areas, particularly in bustling urban settings. Authorities are urging the public to stay vigilant, avoid secluded parking spots, and promptly report any suspicious behavior to the police.

Police representatives are also advising hospitals, shopping centers, and commercial establishments to enhance their surveillance systems and security patrols in parking zones to deter similar incidents in the future.
