Injury Strikes: Joseph Woll Exits Game Against Hurricanes

Post by : Mina Rahman

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll had to exit Thursday’s match against the Carolina Hurricanes due to a lower-body injury. He left the ice after two periods with Dennis Hildeby taking over as the backup for the game's final moments. The specifics concerning the injury’s origin and timing remain uncertain.

Despite Woll leaving early, the Maple Leafs achieved a dominant 5-1 win over the Hurricanes, marking their third consecutive victory. Following the game, head coach Craig Berube mentioned that the team is currently evaluating the extent of Woll’s injury, with no additional updates available at this time.

Woll, 27, had recently returned to action on November 15 after being absent for the first month of the season due to a personal family issue. His comeback was highly awaited, but this injury raises further concerns regarding the Maple Leafs’ goaltending situation.

Additionally, Anthony Stolarz, another key goaltender, has been on the sidelines since November 11 with an upper-body issue, with no expected timeline for his return. This situation leaves the Maple Leafs in a precarious position as they face a pivotal part of the season.

Dennis Hildeby, who stepped in against the Hurricanes, has played six games this season, boasting a .914 save percentage and a single win. His role could become increasingly vital if Woll's injury necessitates a longer recovery period.

The uncertain status of Woll and Stolarz now looms over the Maple Leafs, making their health the team's immediate priority.
