On the fringes of the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Niagara, Canada, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held discussions with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper to reaffirm and deepen the strategic bilateral relationship between India and the United Kingdom. This meeting underscored the India-UK Vision 2035, framing a roadmap for collaboration over the next decade.
In a message shared on X, Jaishankar remarked, “Pleased to have met UK Foreign Secretary @YvetteCooperMP during #G7 FMM in Canada today. We recognized the positive trajectory of our relationship and reaffirmed our commitment to the India-UK Vision 2035 for deepening our cooperation across vital sectors.”
The Vision 2035 outlines a structured agenda focusing on economic expansion, technological innovation, defense and security, climate initiatives, and education. It envisions a dynamic and responsive partnership aimed at capitalizing on global opportunities while enhancing cooperation in education and research to cultivate a skilled workforce.
Jaishankar's presence at the G7 meeting signifies India’s dedication to collaborating with international partners, tackling global issues, and amplifying the perspectives of the Global South in global discussions. The event, set against the stunning backdrop of the Niagara region on November 11-12, convened foreign ministers from G7 nations—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, the US, and the European Union—alongside outreach partners such as India, Australia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, South Korea, South Africa, and Ukraine.
During these discussions, Jaishankar and Cooper focused on enhancing collaboration in key sectors including technology, trade, climate policies, and educational initiatives. These conversations build upon the robust foundation of India-UK relations and are anticipated to facilitate further strategic cooperation, economic partnerships, and knowledge exchanges.
This visit follows a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in July, aimed at revitalizing bilateral relations and amplifying multilateral collaboration on shared global challenges. Jaishankar is expected to engage in a series of further bilateral discussions with other G7 nations and outreach partners during this gathering.
The India-UK Vision 2035 encapsulates a mutual commitment to long-term strategic engagement, enabling both nations to address global challenges collectively and contribute to a sustainable, secure future.
