Support for Major Vikrant Jaitly Amid Ongoing Detention in UAE

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

New Delhi – The Indian government has announced its dedication to aiding Major Vikrant Jaitly (retd), the brother of actress Celina Jaitly, who has been in detention in the United Arab Emirates for over a year.

In response to a recent directive from the Delhi High Court, the external affairs ministry is ensuring that Major Jaitly receives comprehensive legal aid, including prompt communication with his loved ones and consistent consular check-ins. This judicial action followed Celina Jaitly's appeal for ongoing updates and assistance regarding her brother's legal and personal matters.

According to External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the Indian embassy has executed four consular visits to Major Jaitly, maintaining consistent contact with his family, including his spouse. “We are committed to offering every possible support to Indian nationals abroad,” he stated.

Celina Jaitly claims that her brother was unlawfully abducted and held since September 2024. Despite the ongoing detention, she expressed frustration over the scarcity of information regarding his condition and legal proceedings. The government has clarified that Major Jaitly’s arrest relates to a current investigation, with Indian authorities actively cooperating with UAE officials to oversee his situation.

This situation highlights the difficulties faced by Indian nationals overseas and underscores the vital role of consular support in safeguarding their rights and welfare during extended detentions.
