India Condemns Pakistan's Actions at UN, Defends Military Operations

Post by : Mina Rahman

India vehemently addressed Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council, dismissing Islamabad's "misleading" assertions regarding Operation Sindoor while condemning its state-sponsored terrorism. India's Permanent Representative, Parvathaneni Harish, accused Pakistan's envoy of twisting the narrative surrounding events from May of the previous year.

Harish pointed out the brutal killing of 26 civilians in Pahalagam in April 2025 by terrorists supported by Pakistan, reminding the council that it had called for accountability for those responsible, including planners and financiers of the attack. He stated that India’s response was calculated, responsible, and aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure without inflaming tensions.

He also noted that on May 9, Pakistan continued to issue threats toward India, but by May 10, the Pakistani military had reached out to its Indian counterpart, seeking to de-escalate the conflict. Harish challenged Pakistan’s narrative of victory by presenting evidence of significant destruction to several Pakistani air bases resulting from India's operations, including ruined runways and burned hangars.

On the topic of terrorism, Harish firmly rejected Pakistan's attempts to normalize such acts, stating, “Terrorism can never be accepted as the new normal.” He accused Pakistan, a UN Security Council member, of pursuing a detrimental agenda solely targeting India.

Harish reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir is an inseparable part of India and declared that Pakistan has no grounds to meddle in India's internal affairs.

Discussing the Indus Waters Treaty, he expressed India’s choice to suspend the agreement, highlighting that while India has honored the treaty for 65 years, Pakistan's repeated violations through warfare and terrorism justified this decision. He made it clear that India would reconsider its stance on the treaty only if Pakistan ceases its cross-border terrorism.

To conclude, he urged Pakistan to respect the rule of law, reminding the world of the constitutional issues in Pakistan, including the controversial 27th Amendment which grants indefinite immunity to its military chief.

India's firm stance at the UN Security Council showcases its dedication to tackling terrorism and protecting national security, warmly rejecting Pakistan's version of events and interference in its domestic matters.
