A groundbreaking trilateral initiative has been launched by India, Australia, and Canada, emphasizing technology, clean energy, and innovation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed the partnership during the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, following discussions with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Dubbed the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership, this collaboration aims to harness the unique capabilities of the three nations to propel critical and emerging technologies. Modi highlighted that the initiative will bolster innovation, secure supply chains, advance clean energy solutions, and enhance the application of artificial intelligence for public good.
In a joint declaration, the governments underscored their intent to “enhance cooperation on critical and emerging technologies” while building upon their established bilateral relations. Key areas of focus will include the development of green energy, strengthening supply chains, and sourcing critical minerals necessary for advanced technology production.
The statement reaffirmed a shared strategic vision among the three countries towards a sustainable and secure future. The alliance will also concentrate on developing and safely integrating artificial intelligence to improve services and create new opportunities for citizens.
Discussions among officials from India, Australia, and Canada are anticipated in early 2026, where they will outline steps and commence implementation of the initiative.
On the same occasion, Modi had discussions with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, expressing optimism in strengthening India-UK ties across various sectors.
During the G20 Leaders’ Meeting, Modi called on global leaders to rethink development models and proposed a G20 initiative aimed at addressing the growing connection between drug trafficking and terrorism. Additionally, he advocated for a global healthcare response team to enhance preparedness for future challenges.
This new ACITI Partnership represents a crucial advancement in India’s international collaborations within technology, innovation, and clean energy, all of which are vital for the future trajectory of global development.
