London: Heathrow Airport has officially abolished the 100ml liquid restriction for hand luggage, permitting travellers to carry bottles up to two litres through security. This decision follows the complete installation of state-of-the-art CT scanners across all terminals at Heathrow, as recent reports state.
Thanks to the advanced scanners, passengers no longer have to remove liquids or electronic devices like laptops from their bags, thereby eliminating the necessity for clear plastic bags. Heathrow now proudly claims the title of the largest airport globally to fully implement this innovative screening technology.
The revised policy is applicable only for flights departing from Heathrow, and travellers are encouraged to verify the security regulations at their departure airports, as other airports might still adhere to previous restrictions.
Thomas Woldbye, CEO of Heathrow, stated that this £1 billion enhancement will streamline security procedures and enhance the travel experience, allowing passengers to save time during security checks.
Meanwhile, several other airports across the UK, including Gatwick, Edinburgh, and Birmingham, are also increasing their liquid limits, although some are still pending government approval.
Dubai International Airport (DXB) implemented similar advancements last year with upgraded scanners to reduce wait times and enhance the passenger experience.
