German President Warns That U.S. Actions Are Damaging the World Order

Post by : Saif Nasser

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has issued a sharp warning about the future of the global world order, openly criticising the foreign policy approach of the United States. His remarks signal growing concern among European leaders about rising instability and weakening international rules.

Speaking at a public event in Berlin, Steinmeier said the world risks turning into a place where powerful nations take whatever they want without respect for law, values, or weaker countries. He described this danger as a “den of robbers,” where morality and cooperation no longer matter.

The German president said global democracy is under greater attack than ever before. He pointed to recent international actions that, in his view, show a breakdown of trust and shared responsibility among major powers. While he did not name every event directly, his comments suggested concern over forceful political interventions and disregard for international norms.

Steinmeier also reflected on earlier global shocks. He described Russia’s annexation of Crimea and its invasion of Ukraine as a major turning point that damaged the rules-based world system. He then added that current U.S. behavior represents another serious break, especially because the United States played a key role in building the post-war global order.

Although Germany’s president does not control government policy, his position allows him to speak freely on moral and political issues. His words therefore carry symbolic weight and reflect wider worries inside Europe about the direction of global leadership.

Steinmeier stressed that protecting the world order will require action, not silence. He said countries beyond Europe and North America, including India and Brazil, must also be convinced to defend international rules and democratic principles. According to him, global stability depends on cooperation, not power politics.

His speech highlights a growing fear that the system designed to prevent chaos after World War II is slowly eroding. If nations stop respecting shared rules, conflicts could increase and weaker countries could suffer the most.

In closing, Steinmeier’s message was clear: the world must not accept a future ruled by force and selfish interests. Without strong commitment to cooperation and values, global order could continue to weaken, making peace harder to protect.
