Catastrophic Bus Accident on Egypt's Red Sea Highway: 2 Fatalities, 39 Injured

Post by : Raina Nasser

In a tragic event on Egypt’s Red Sea coastal highway, a tourist bus collided with a large truck early Tuesday morning, near Ras Gharib, resulting in two fatalities and 39 injuries. The bus was transporting foreign tourists from Hurghada to Cairo at the time of the incident.

The deceased include the bus driver and a passenger. Among the injured are 27 Russians, seven Finns, two Lithuanians, and three Egyptians, encompassing the tour guide and the truck driver. The crash was severe enough to demolish the front part of the bus, leaving several passengers in critical condition.

Emergency services quickly arrived on scene, taking the wounded to Ras Gharib Central Hospital. Medical officials are actively monitoring several patients due to the seriousness of their conditions.

The Ministry of Tourism, alongside foreign embassies, has been alerted to offer consular assistance to those affected. A thorough investigation led by the Ras Gharib Prosecution is underway, which will include inspections, CCTV analysis, and interviews with witnesses to establish the cause of this accident.

Initial assessments suggest that factors like driver distraction or high speed may have played a role in the tragedy. Local experts and residents have frequently advocated for dedicated lanes for heavy trucks on this popular coastal route, which has been the site of numerous fatal incidents during the peak tourist season.

The investigation remains ongoing, as authorities seek to piece together the events leading to this heartbreaking accident.
