Significant Community Support Marks Dubai's Mosque Initiative

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) in Dubai has announced remarkable advancements through its “Neighbourhood Mosques” initiative, unveiling community contributions that surpassed AED 5.7 million in the first quarter of 2026.

Focusing on facility enhancements for mosques, the initiative has resulted in the installation of new carpeting in over 30 mosques, costing above AED 2 million. Additionally, support for maintenance and sponsorship for nearly 35 mosques has been valued at more than AED 3.7 million annually.

Critical to this initiative was the addition of approximately 15,500 square metres of premium carpeting. This improvement fosters a safer and more comfortable atmosphere for worshippers while boosting operational standards and resource management.

Aligned with the fast-paced growth of Dubai’s urban landscape, the initiative ensures that mosques are well-maintained and accessible, reinforcing their role as vital community centers that foster social unity and shared values.

Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, IACAD’s Director General, remarked that the initiative's success illustrates a growing public awareness and sense of communal responsibility. He highlighted the importance of donations, reflecting a robust culture of philanthropy within the UAE and community dedication to mosque upkeep.

He further indicated that this initiative embodies a sustainable alliance between the community and IACAD, turning charitable efforts into enduring advantages for generations to come and strengthening mosques as bastions of community and social stability.

Mohammed Jassim Al Mansoori, Director of the Customer Service Department and overseer of the initiative, stated that the outcomes confirm the trust the community places in IACAD’s initiatives. He noted that the program effectively translates community involvement into tangible enhancements, ensuring mosques meet worshippers’ expectations.

In summary, the “Neighbourhood Mosques” initiative remains instrumental in fostering Dubai’s vision of creating a cohesive, sustainable, and community-centered society.
