Dubai Municipality Enhances Engineering Standards with Partnership

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Dubai Municipality has entered into a Memorandum of Cooperation with the UAE Society of Engineers aimed at enhancing the engineering landscape in Dubai to meet global benchmarks.

This collaboration aims to establish frameworks for evaluating, licensing, and qualifying engineering professionals, thereby boosting efficiency, preparedness, and innovative practices within the engineering sector in alignment with Dubai's ambition to attract international engineering and architectural events.

As part of the agreement, the two organizations will facilitate professional assessments necessary for obtaining engineering practice licenses in Dubai. These assessments will be conducted at the Society of Engineers' facilities according to globally acknowledged standards. The initiative further includes the creation of an engineering classification system that correlates technical exam results with professional qualifications.

The memorandum encompasses collaborative efforts such as:

  • Hosting international engineering and architectural events

  • Launching a variety of training programs across different engineering fields

  • Conducting technical workshops and discussion panels

  • Creating digital platforms for knowledge sharing, research, and best practices

Furthermore, it champions youth innovation by backing emerging engineering initiatives and facilitating field visits for engineers and students from both organizations, thereby fostering a culture of knowledge exchange.

H.E. Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, remarked:
“Our partnership with the Society of Engineers enhances systems to evaluate and classify engineering professionals, promotes skills development, and encourages innovation and applied research in construction and sustainability. This initiative is critical for maintaining Dubai's status as a global leader in urban planning and construction.”

H.E. Abdullah Yousuf Al Ali, President of the Board of Directors at the Society of Engineers - UAE, emphasized:
“This strategic alliance strengthens engineers’ skillsets, fosters innovation in the construction domain, and fortifies the collaboration between the Society and Dubai Municipality to elevate standards and infrastructure development. It equally plays a vital role in organizing specialized training initiatives and workshops, enhancing the UAE's prominence as a hub for engineering and architectural brilliance.”

This initiative marks a progressive step in Dubai Municipality's ongoing commitment to advancing the engineering sector through enhanced professional standards, leadership, efficiency, and innovation, solidifying Dubai's position as a global hotspot for engineering advancements and superior urban development.
