Dubai, UAE – Emirates Airline, in collaboration with Safran Seats, a prominent name in aircraft seating solutions, has formalized a key Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a cutting-edge manufacturing and assembly facility in Dubai. This partnership represents a pivotal industrial venture that highlights Dubai’s expanding role as a global center for advanced aerospace production.
The facility will begin by focusing on the production of Business and Economy Class seats for cabin retrofit initiatives, with future plans to include line-fit production. The plant will cater to a diverse worldwide clientele of Emirates and Safran, delivering a significant advantage by localizing world-class seating technology to Emirates’ operations.
This venture aims to address the increasing need for aircraft seating while incorporating state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques for enhanced productivity. Covering an area of approximately 20,000 to 25,000 square meters, the facility will gradually scale production, targeting an initial assembly of nearly 1,000 Business Class seats each year.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, remarked:
"This partnership with Safran signifies a crucial milestone in positioning Dubai as a leading aerospace manufacturing destination. By establishing top-tier seat production and supply chain capabilities locally, we will facilitate high-skilled employment and enrich our retrofit initiatives while producing seats for international markets. This initiative bolsters the D33 economic agenda, enhances our strategic sector, and contributes to the diversification of Dubai’s economy. Our aviation sector ranks among the finest globally, and now we must cultivate manufacturing capabilities that reflect this excellence."
Olivier Andriès, Safran's CEO, expressed:
"We hold our long-standing collaboration with Emirates in high regard and appreciate their confidence in this ambitious endeavor. This partnership solidifies our mutual commitment to excellence in operations and industrial innovation, equipping us to fulfill the escalating needs of the global aviation market. Together, we are revolutionizing aircraft seating through innovation and resilience."
Safran has been instrumental in Emirates’ fleet upgrade initiatives, providing high-quality seating solutions for retrofit programs and the airline’s A350 fleet. This Dubai facility is the initial step towards building a more extensive aerospace manufacturing ecosystem, aimed at attracting suppliers, tech companies, and elite talent to the region.
The Emirates-Safran collaboration is set to transform aviation manufacturing in Dubai, promoting operational excellence, creating skilled job opportunities, and fostering innovation in aircraft interiors for the future.
