Residents in Dubai are being cautioned by the police to steer clear of beggars and unauthorized butchers, particularly during festive seasons like Eid Al Adha.
Last Eid Al Adha, authorities apprehended 50 individuals for begging and illegal meat-selling as part of their persistent security initiatives throughout the emirate.
Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi, the Director of the Criminal Phenomena Department in the General Department of Criminal Investigation, highlighted that the force remains vigilant against begging through the “Anti-Begging” initiative, which operates in collaboration with key partners.
He pointed out that begging manifests in various forms, from marketplaces to public spaces and places of worship. Authorities also raised concerns about online begging, as well as misleading donation appeals proliferating on social media.
Dubai Police has noted that some exploit the goodwill of residents by using vulnerable individuals, including children and those with disabilities, to solicit money illegally.
Authorities have reiterated that residents should only contribute to verified charitable entities to guarantee that their support reaches the intended recipients through appropriate avenues.
Furthermore, Dubai Police cautioned against engaging with itinerant butchers, warning that unlicensed meat processing poses serious health hazards due to inadequate sanitation and unclean instruments.
Anyone witnessing begging or illegal butchery can inform the authorities by calling 901, utilizing the Police Eye feature in the Dubai Police app, or by reporting online begging through the e-Crime platform.
