In a significant move to bolster its status as a prime global trade hub, Dubai Customs has launched the Center of Excellence for Customs and Trade Logistics in collaboration with the University of Dubai. This initiative aligns with the emirate’s overarching objective to modernize customs processes and fortify supply chain resilience while reinforcing the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.
The new center is set to serve as a cutting-edge research and knowledge base dedicated to crafting innovative customs solutions that enhance operational performance and elevate Dubai's trade competitiveness. Authorities assert that this project embodies Dubai’s aspirations to emerge as one of the world’s foremost economic powerhouses.
As outlined by Dubai Customs, the center will concentrate on the development of policies, applied research, digital customs initiatives, and international benchmarking aimed at optimizing trade facilitation and logistics efficiency. The initiative also aims to upgrade customs operations utilizing artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and modern trade approaches.
The collaboration with the University of Dubai will enable the center to engage with distinguished international academic bodies and research institutions. Partners in this initiative include notable entities such as Kühne Logistics University, Michigan State University, the University of Adelaide, and Henley Business School.
Officials highlighted that the center will tackle pressing global trade issues such as cross-border e-commerce, supply chain security, sustainability, and the digital evolution of logistics operations. The project is poised to enhance trade transparency and improve customer service experiences within customs.
Dr Abdulla Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, emphasized that this center is essential for preparing Dubai for future challenges and plays a pivotal role in the emirate’s economic strategy. He noted that it will enhance research capabilities and foster evidence-based policy decisions, ensuring Dubai's competitive edge in a dynamic global trading landscape.
Dr Eesa Al Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai, remarked that the partnership bridges academic insight with real-world customs operational needs, aiming to develop pioneering solutions to shape global trade governance and integrated logistics.
To celebrate the launch, Dubai Customs and the University of Dubai will host a large-scale innovation hackathon featuring 33 student teams and over 110 participants, aimed at conceptualizing smart solutions for customs inspections, supply chain resilience, trade transparency, and the future of logistics technologies.
This initiative underscores Dubai’s increasing focus on digital transformation, innovation, and knowledge-centric economic growth as it seeks to position itself at the heart of future global trade frameworks.
