His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum — Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai — held discussions with Chief AI Officers from numerous government entities on the margins of the UAE Government Annual Meetings 2025 in Abu Dhabi, held from 4 to 6 November.
More than 20 Chief AI Officers and in excess of 500 senior officials attended the session, which centred on Dubai’s objective to establish new international standards for applying artificial intelligence to enhance governmental performance and raise the standard of living across sectors.
Sheikh Hamdan stressed that the guidance provided by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has embedded AI at the heart of public sector transformation. He said the coming phase will accelerate deployment of advanced technologies to generate innovative public-sector solutions and consolidate Dubai’s AI leadership.
The meeting counted among its participants His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; and His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications.
In his remarks, Sheikh Hamdan underlined confidence in the UAE’s home-grown talent and their pivotal role in delivering an AI-driven future. He highlighted young Emiratis as instrumental to developing AI applications that streamline government operations and upgrade public services.
Chief AI Officers outlined international technology trends, identified obstacles and opportunities, and discussed strategies to use AI for smarter, faster, and more efficient government systems. The dialogue emphasised inter-agency collaboration, partnerships and continuous knowledge exchange to bolster Dubai’s standing in the digital economy.
The relatively new Chief AI Officer position across federal and local bodies is designed to speed AI adoption in public administration. Initiatives such as the AI Chiefs’ knowledge visit to the United States and the AI Leadership Training Programme support the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision and the UAE AI Strategy 2031 — frameworks intended to position the UAE at the forefront of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
