The planned tour of the Bangladesh women’s cricket team to India, featuring three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20Is in December, is now postponed indefinitely. A representative from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that they received a communication from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the need to reschedule the series.
Officials did not disclose the exact reasons for this delay; however, indications point to rising political tensions between India and Bangladesh as a contributing factor.
This series was included in the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s Future Tours Programme, intended to be India's final competition before the upcoming 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL). For Bangladesh, it represented a significant opportunity within the Women’s ODI Championship and a chance to gain crucial competitive experience ahead of major tournaments.
Originally, the matches were slated to occur in Kolkata and Cuttack. These ODIs were designed to afford both teams a platform to assess their squads while preparing for future international engagements.
Earlier this year, an Indian men's team tour, set for August 2025 to Bangladesh, was similarly postponed, repositioning it to September 2026 after further negotiations between the cricket boards. This move was made mindful of international commitments and scheduling feasibility for both parties.
In prior remarks, the BCCI stated, “This decision has been reached following discussions between the two boards, considering international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams. The BCB is eager to host India in September 2026 for this anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures will follow shortly.”
The postponement impacts the preparation and match readiness for both teams before major tournaments. India was gearing up to utilize these matches as a preparatory lead-up to the WPL, a critical time for players to find form and finalize team pairings. Bangladesh, too, misses out on a vital chance to engage with a formidable opponent, which could influence their future ICC standings and overall performance.
Despite the indefinite delay, both boards remain committed to rescheduling the series at a future favorable time. Players from both sides are expected to continue their training and preparation for the eventual match once new dates are set.
Both the Bangladesh Cricket Board and BCCI have confirmed that the new dates for the postponed women’s series will be revealed later on. Fans of women’s cricket are keenly awaiting this announcement, as the matches were anticipated to deliver thrilling cricket and fortify the bonds between the two nations’ cricket authorities.
While the indefinite delay serves as a setback, it underscores the importance of thoughtful consideration of international schedules and safety. Both teams will now concentrate on other upcoming events while preparing for this series in the coming days.
