Cristiano Ronaldo, the world-famous football star from Portugal, has been named the Global Ambassador for the Esports World Cup 2025 (EWC). This big gaming event will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from July 8 to July 21, 2025.
Ronaldo shared his thoughts about this exciting role. He said, “Sport is always growing and changing – and esports is another exciting area. The hard work, passion, and talent I’ve seen in esports players is just like what I’ve felt on the football field. I’m happy to stand with these gamers and support an event that encourages the new generation.”
On his social media page, X (formerly Twitter), Ronaldo wrote, “I’m proud to join the Esports World Cup as Global Ambassador – standing with esports athletes who rise above and inspire the next generation.”
The CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation, Ralf Reichert, also praised Ronaldo. He said, “Cristiano Ronaldo connects people of all ages – from long-time football fans to young gamers. We are honored to have the greatest player of all time with us at this important moment for esports.”
Ronaldo has already supported the Esports World Cup in the past. He helped announce the creation of EWC in 2023 and even attended the Closing Ceremony in Riyadh last summer. At that event, he celebrated with Team Falcons, who won the Club Championship.
As Global Ambassador, Ronaldo will appear in the worldwide campaigns leading up to the event and during the entire seven-week festival. He will also be part of one of the games – he is a playable character in FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, which is one of the 25 games in this year’s competition.
The Esports World Cup 2025 is going to be huge. It will feature:
2,000 top players
200 clubs
Over 100 countries
25 tournaments across 24 games
More than $70 million in prize money
This makes it one of the biggest gaming events in the world. With Ronaldo on board, it’s clear that esports is reaching new heights and inspiring millions of fans everywhere.
