UAE Commemorates 54th National Day With Spectacular Celebrations

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Today, the United Arab Emirates marks its 54th National Day, celebrating over fifty years since the historic unification of the emirates in 1971. Known as Eid Al Etihad, this occasion embodies the enduring “Spirit of the Union” formed when Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah unified under the guidance of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, with Ras Al Khaimah joining in 1972 to complete the federation of seven emirates.

Cities across the nation are awash with celebratory events. An official ceremony in Al Ain is being streamed live to public viewing areas in all emirates, inviting families, residents, and visitors to come together. Iconic landmarks are hosting special activities, including concerts, cultural exhibitions, and extravagant fireworks displays throughout this extended holiday weekend.

In Dubai, the Burj Khalifa illuminated in the national colors just before the festivities commenced, setting an uplifting atmosphere throughout the city. Historic sites like Al Shindagha Museum and Hatta Heritage Village are featuring exhibitions showcasing traditional Emirati customs alongside modern achievements. Streets, homes, and public spaces are adorned in red, green, white, and black, with community groups organizing parades and family-friendly activities.

From Abu Dhabi to Fujairah, the mood resonates with national pride and the unity that has been the cornerstone of the UAE's journey since its establishment. The celebrations will carry on throughout the weekend, providing residents and visitors an opportunity to delve into the rich heritage, culture, and solidarity of the nation.
