Ottawa Launches Major Lansdowne 2.0 Redevelopment Initiative

Post by : Mina Rahman

The City of Ottawa has officially initiated the Lansdowne 2.0 redevelopment, awarding the construction contract to EBC Inc. This pivotal development aims to reinvigorate one of the city's essential urban areas.

After the council granted approval for the construction on November 7, the city completed all necessary legal formalities, confirming bonding and insurance prerequisites alongside the construction agreement. “The contract with EBC Inc. has been finalized, and a Commence Work Order has been issued by the City of Ottawa,” stated Tammy Rose, General Manager of Infrastructure.

Phase 1, which began on November 28, emphasizes building a new Event Centre. This stage includes the removal of berms, environmental cleanup, site servicing, updates to TD Place, creating an underground loading zone, accessible drop-off spots, new berm construction, as well as upgrading landscaping and wayfinding around the Great Lawn.

City representatives assured the public that there will not be any planned road closures or detours during Phase 1, and TD Place will continue to welcome visitors throughout the construction period.

To ensure transparency, a detailed construction communication campaign will accompany the project. Residents and businesses will also be invited to a drop-in information session to discuss construction schedules, milestones, and mitigation strategies. The date for this session will be announced shortly.

The Lansdowne 2.0 project reflects a commitment spanning ten years to rejuvenate one of Ottawa's pivotal community spaces, offering modern infrastructure, enhanced public facilities, and a lively urban atmosphere.
