UAE Interns Shine in Production of International Film

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Abu Dhabi recently provided a remarkable opportunity for six budding UAE talents as they participated in the production of Lionsgate’s acclaimed film, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. These interns engaged directly with various key departments—such as camera, wardrobe, production, and location management—gaining a hands-on understanding of the dynamic realm of international filmmaking.

The film debuted as the top global box office performer, having amassed $147.5 million worldwide, and granted interns a rare view of professional workflows and industry benchmarks. Their journey allowed them to enhance practical skills, engage in daily production activities, and comprehend the operation of large-scale film sets.

Since 2020, the Creative Media Authority (CMA) alongside the Abu Dhabi Film Commission (ADFC) has facilitated over 300 internship placements across more than 100 local and international projects. A notable portion of these participants are Emirati nationals, with 19 of them gaining experience abroad in countries such as Romania, Egypt, Australia, Canada, Bulgaria, Hungary, Malta, and the United States. More than 40 former interns are now contributing actively to Abu Dhabi’s expanding film and media landscape, showcasing the enduring significance of these initiatives.

Participants expressed how transformative this experience has been. Intern Bushra Wasim remarked, “This has broadened my perspective of the industry and clarified my career aspirations.” Costume intern Sheikha Al Junaibi added, “Hands-on experience in fittings and styling on set is truly priceless. I’m extremely thankful to CMA for this chance.”

Through programs like these, CMA and ADFC persist in fostering local talent, providing practical training and mentorship in alignment with the UAE’s vision for a vibrant cultural and creative industry.
