China and Tajikistan Enhance Trade Ties While Supporting Taiwan Position

Post by : Raina Nasser

During a recent visit to Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed expanding trade, investment, and political alliances with the Central Asian nation. On November 22, 2025, Wang Yi reaffirmed China's dedication to being a trustworthy partner for Tajikistan.

He emphasized plans to boost imports of high-quality agricultural goods from Tajikistan and encouraged increased investments from Chinese enterprises to support the economic growth of the landlocked nation.

Political alignment was also a focal point of the visit. Thanking Tajikistan for its steadfast support regarding China’s positions on sensitive topics like Taiwan, Wang reiterated China's strong stance against outside interference and expressed serious concerns about the revival of Japanese militarism following recent comments from Japan's Prime Minister regarding Taiwan's defense.

Additionally, he highlighted the importance of upholding the global consensus on the one-China principle, affirming Taiwan as a part of China, while advocating for the preservation of World War Two achievements and regional stability.

The discussions led to an agreement to enhance cooperation beyond mere trade, including plans for joint efforts in mineral resource exploitation and increased security through bilateral patrols. This partnership marks a significant deepening of ties between China and Tajikistan in the domains of economy, politics, and security.

Overall, Wang Yi’s visit showcased China's commitment to being a pivotal partner for Tajikistan, facilitating mutual growth and regional stability. Both countries expressed their intent for sustained collaboration that benefits their populations and contributes to lasting peace in the region.
