In a remarkable display of skill, world number one Aryna Sabalenka has secured her spot in the semi-finals of the Grand Slam, keeping her ambition for a third consecutive final alive. The two-time champion, who previously claimed the trophy in both 2023 and 2024, is poised to challenge either Coco Gauff or Elina Svitolina for a chance to compete in Saturday’s championship match.
Sabalenka opened the quarter-final match with remarkable intensity, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead in the first set and pressing her teenage rival Jovic right from the start. Despite facing a tough situation, Jovic demonstrated impressive resilience, managing to hold her serve in the fourth game and gradually finding her rhythm in this high-stakes encounter.
This marked Jovic's maiden appearance in a Grand Slam quarter-final, where she leveraged her agility and court coverage to challenge the seasoned Sabalenka. By extending rallies and putting pressure on the Belarusian, the teenager exhibited maturity beyond her years, yet Sabalenka's patience paid off as she secured the first set in just under an hour.
In the second set, Sabalenka elevated her performance, breaking serve in the initial game with a breathtaking cross-court winner and asserting her dominance. With precision and power, the 27-year-old effectively managed baseline exchanges before sealing the match with confidence.
With this win, Sabalenka fortifies her status as a leading contender, moving closer to yet another Grand Slam final and the possibility of an unprecedented title streak.
