Authorities in Noida have apprehended a builder after the drowning of 27-year-old Yuvraj Mehta, whose SUV plunged into a construction pit filled with water.
Abhay Kumar, the arrested individual, is part of the firm responsible for the construction project. The police are currently on the lookout for another owner, Manish Kumar.
The incident occurred in Sector 150, where a 20-foot-deep pit, initially dug in 2021 for a mall's basement, has accumulated water since construction was halted in 2022, creating a dangerous environment.
Following the tragic event, Mehta's father lodged a formal complaint, prompting authorities to file a case against the implicated construction companies. One firm has indicated it sold the project back in 2019-2020 to the current developers with the required local authority permissions.
An investigation is underway to determine how safety protocols were overlooked, allowing a hazardous pit to remain unguarded for several years. Meanwhile, law enforcement continues to seek the missing project owner.
In light of the incident, officials have issued strong warnings to builders and developers, emphasizing the necessity for meticulous safety measures at construction sites to avert future tragedies.
