Bangladesh Cricket Board Collaborates with ICC on T20 World Cup Security Measures

Post by : Mina Rahman

In a recent announcement, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed its commitment to collaborating with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to resolve pressing security issues ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Initially, the board expressed hesitation about sending its team to India.

On Wednesday, the BCB reported that it will engage with event organizers to facilitate Bangladesh’s participation. “The ICC has provided assurances that our concerns will be integrated into the security arrangements for the tournament,” the statement noted.

Both parties held a virtual conference on Tuesday following Bangladesh’s request to switch the location of its matches since all group games were slated for India. This request came against the backdrop of a controversy involving star bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who was let go by his IPL franchise under instructions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

In light of the incident, Bangladesh's interim government also prohibited IPL broadcasts, attributing this decision to public dissatisfaction over the player's exclusion.

The BCB clarified that any reports indicating an ultimatum from the ICC are “entirely unfounded” and do not accurately represent official dialogues. The board is focused on handling the concerns proactively to ensure their team's smooth participation.

Rising tensions between Bangladesh and India, marked by social unrest and diplomatic challenges, have amplified worries regarding the team’s safety during the championship.
