Malaysia has officially labeled 2026 as the “Execution Year”, emphasizing a stronger commitment to carry out the policies outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). This pivotal announcement was made by Economy Minister Datuk Seri Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir during his Ministerial Address for 2026, highlighting a transition from strategy to execution.
According to Akmal, 2026 will mark the inaugural year of 13MP's execution, necessitating a shift towards implementing government policies into tangible programmes, initiatives, and developmental projects that yield direct advantages for the populace. He asserted that the effectiveness of these policies will be assessed through their actual results, rather than mere intentions.
The minister pointed out that every initiative stemming from the 13MP must adequately reach the intended demographics and address genuine requirements on the ground. He emphasized that the capacity for effective execution would serve as a core assessment criterion across the ministry, impacting all levels of leadership.
Execution, as Akmal explained, will serve as a collective Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for the secretary-general, deputy secretaries-general, directors, and various agencies, extending even to himself and the deputy minister, signifying a robust commitment to results-oriented governance.
He outlined the Madani government’s determination to ensure that the 13th Malaysia Plan transcends mere theoretical proposals, being implemented in a structured and impactful way. The aim is to convert strategies into actionable steps that significantly improve the daily lives of Malaysians.
During this implementation phase, Akmal noted, the economic future of Malaysia will be critically influenced, especially as the nation faces an increasingly complex global economic landscape. Effective execution is deemed essential for bolstering Malaysia’s standing and avoiding the middle-income trap.
To promote transparency and oversight, the government plans to utilize a digital framework known as the MyRMK system to monitor the execution of the 13MP. This platform will track vital performance indicators while pinpointing responsible agencies, thereby fostering improved coordination and accountability.
The economy minister additionally underscored the necessity to prioritize small-scale, impactful projects that guarantee prompt results. He identified initiatives such as repairing damaged infrastructure, upgrading rural roads, and enhancing schools and clinics as pivotal government actions aimed at swiftly addressing real issues.
By tackling such challenges promptly, Akmal asserted, public faith in governmental effectiveness would likely rise, as citizens witness visible improvements instead of enduring protracted discussions on extensive projects.
As 2026 is designated as the Execution Year, the government aspires to ensure that the 13MP policies yield significant development outcomes, thereby strengthening confidence in public institutions and enhancing Malaysia’s economic resilience.
