Nandamuri Balakrishna’s eagerly awaited Telugu film Akhanda 2 has faced an indefinite postponement right before its planned global premiere on December 5. The production company, 14 Reels Plus, has attributed the unexpected delay to ongoing legal challenges and unavoidable circumstances, disappointing both fans and those in the film industry.
Originally scheduled for paid premieres on December 4, these events were canceled amidst confusion over ticket sales, particularly in the Nizam area. Compounding the issue, the Overseas Key Delivery Messages (KDMs) necessary for digital screenings weren’t cleared, which further disrupted distribution plans.
In a statement, 14 Reels Plus remarked:
"It is with a heavy heart that we announce #Akhanda2 will not be releasing as planned due to unavoidable and unfortunate circumstances. We understand how disappointing this is for every fan and cinephile anticipating the film. We are diligently working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. We appreciate your support during this time and will provide a positive update shortly."
In Tamil Nadu, the Madras High Court issued an injunction halting the film’s release, favoring Eros International Media Limited and preventing any distribution or commercial exploitation. This legal action stems from an ongoing arbitration dispute with 14 Reels Entertainment Private Limited, involving a substantial amount owed, estimated at around Rs 28 crore. Eros claimed the impending release by 14 Reels Plus LLP attempted to evade compliance with the arbitration award.
Financial issues have also been noted as a contributing factor to the unexpected delay. Although such matters are not uncommon in the Telugu film industry, the abrupt postponement of a highly anticipated project like Akhanda 2 has left fans anxiously awaiting a revised release date.
