Agartala, the capital city of Tripura, is set to witness a major improvement in air connectivity as Air India Express launches a new direct flight service to Bagdogra from October 26, 2025. This new route is expected to make travel smoother and faster for passengers heading toward popular tourist spots in North Bengal and Sikkim, such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Mirik.
A Step Toward Better Connectivity
The introduction of this flight marks a significant milestone in strengthening travel links across the northeastern region. With the new service, travelers from Tripura and nearby states will no longer need to take connecting flights or long road journeys to reach the scenic hill stations of North Bengal and Sikkim.
The airline will use a 180-seater Boeing aircraft, ensuring both comfort and capacity for daily travelers. According to the schedule, the flight will depart Bagdogra at 4:30 PM and arrive in Agartala by 5:40 PM. The return flight from Agartala will take off at 6:10 PM and land in Bagdogra at 7:20 PM.
Affordable Travel for All
Ticket bookings have already opened, and Air India Express has kept fares affordable for families and budget travelers. The timing of this new launch is also strategic—it aligns perfectly with the winter tourist season, one of the busiest times of the year for hill destinations. Families planning vacations to the mountains can now enjoy easier access to these popular locations without spending long hours in transit.
Impact on Regional Routes
However, with the launch of the new route, Air India Express will temporarily suspend its Agartala–Guwahati flight service. Airport officials have assured that passengers traveling between Agartala and Guwahati will still have options, as other airlines like IndiGo and Akasa Air will continue to operate on that route. This ensures that regular travelers will not face major disruptions.
Boost for Northeast Tourism
Tourism experts believe that this new connection will encourage more visitors to explore the northeastern region, especially the hill stations and cultural hubs of North Bengal. The flight is expected to help local businesses, hotels, and travel agencies as well, by increasing tourist arrivals during the holiday season.
For the people of Tripura, the new flight offers not just convenience but also pride. It places Agartala on the map as an emerging air hub in the Northeast, improving its link with one of India’s busiest domestic airports at Bagdogra.
Strategic Vision for Growth
This move is part of Air India Express’s broader plan to expand regional connectivity and improve accessibility between key Indian cities and smaller destinations. By introducing this route, the airline is helping to bridge the gap between the Northeast and the rest of the country.
Industry experts note that better flight connections will not only benefit tourists but also boost trade, business travel, and cultural exchange between the regions.
Voices from the Ground
Local residents and travel operators have welcomed the new service with enthusiasm. Many believe it will bring more tourists to the region and make it easier for locals to travel to other parts of India for work, education, or medical treatment.
A travel agent from Agartala said, “This flight will save a lot of time for families and tourists. Earlier, people had to travel long hours by road or change flights. Now, the journey will be much more comfortable and quick.”
A Brighter Future for Northeast Aviation
The new Agartala–Bagdogra route is more than just another flight—it’s a symbol of development and connectivity. As Air India Express continues to invest in regional routes, smaller cities like Agartala are finding their place in India’s growing aviation network.
With this launch, the airline is expected to attract both domestic and international tourists heading toward the Himalayas and the tea gardens of North Bengal. Travelers can now plan a weekend getaway to Tiger Hill in Darjeeling or the tranquil valleys of Gangtok with ease and comfort.
