Investigation Underway After Air India Airbus A350 Engine Damage in Delhi

Post by : Mina Rahman

An investigation is currently being carried out by India’s aviation authorities regarding an incident where an Air India Airbus A350 experienced engine damage after sucking in a cargo container while taxiing at Delhi airport.

The aircraft, bound for New York, had to return to Delhi shortly after takeoff due to the temporary closure of Iranian airspace. After a safe landing, the plane was taxiing towards its designated parking area with approximately 240 passengers when its right engine ingested the container, which was left on the taxiway amid heavy fog.

Reports indicate that the container had inadvertently fallen from a ground vehicle that was transporting luggage and cargo. The operator noticed the approaching plane and departed while leaving the container behind.

Aviation regulators confirmed that the debris was removed from the taxiway, and the damaged aircraft was subsequently towed to a designated area. Images released show noticeable damage to the engine casing and fan blades.

This incident has sparked concerns regarding ground safety at airports across India. Recent audits have raised issues such as faded runway markings, crew fatigue, and improper maintenance practices.

Air India has confirmed that the A350 in question is currently grounded for repairs and has warned that disruptions to long-haul routes, particularly to New York and London, could occur. The airline operates a fleet of six A350 aircraft on key international routes.
