President Donald Trump’s Air Force One was compelled to return to Joint Base Andrews on Tuesday night shortly after its departure for Switzerland.
As per White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the flight crew identified a minor electrical issue which led to the decision to turn back safely to the base.
A reporter on board mentioned that the lights in the press area flickered out momentarily post-takeoff, however, further clarification was not provided at that point.
Leavitt affirmed that President Trump will proceed with his scheduled events at the World Economic Forum in Davos by taking another aircraft after returning to the base.
The current fleet of Air Force One has served for nearly 40 years, with Boeing tirelessly working on new replacements, albeit facing multiple delays.
Previously, the ruling family of Qatar had given Trump a luxury Boeing 747-8 jet intended for the Air Force One fleet, which garnered significant attention. The aircraft is currently under modification to adhere to U.S. security specifications.
Leavitt humorously noted to reporters aboard that the Qatari jet was sounding “much better” at present.
