Abu Dhabi Initiates Golden List to Enhance Pharmaceutical Trade

Abu Dhabi Initiates Golden List to Enhance Pharmaceutical Trade

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

In a significant move, Abu Dhabi Customs, in collaboration with the Emirates Drug Establishment, has introduced the Golden List of Pharmaceutical Companies. This initiative aims to reinforce supply chains while creating an adaptable regulatory environment that adheres to international best practices.

Targeted at harmonizing pharmaceutical safety with efficient trade practices, this program facilitates the smooth transit of shipments through Abu Dhabi's border ports. It aligns with the UAE’s We the UAE 2031 vision, promoting advancements in health innovation and sustainability.

The inaugural phase of the Golden List incorporates 31 reputable pharmaceutical companies. These entities will enjoy streamlined customs processes, increased compliance measures, and expedited shipment processing. Notable enhancements include automatic shipment authorization and swift customs clearance within the streamlined customs framework.

This launch underscores Abu Dhabi’s pivotal role as a central hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing within the UAE, contributing approximately 27% to the nation’s total pharmaceutical output. Thus, this initiative is vital for reinforcing national health security and enhancing global competitiveness.

H.E. Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director General of Abu Dhabi Customs, articulated that the Golden List showcases the strategic alliances between government and private sectors, enhancing regulatory efficiency while permitting compliant firms to access flexible customs routes without sacrificing safety.

H.E. Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Director General of the Emirates Drug Establishment, emphasized the initiative's embodiment of robust institutional integration and a commitment to pharmaceutical safety. She remarked that it fosters investment in high-value pharmaceutical sectors, speeds up processes for compliant companies, and reinforces the UAE’s stature in pharmaceutical manufacturing globally.

To be included in the Golden List, companies must fulfill an array of criteria, such as:

  • A solid customs compliance history with no significant violations

  • Effective internal control measures and risk management protocols

  • Willingness to adhere to technical requirements set by relevant authorities

  • Complete compliance with Emirates Drug Establishment regulations

This groundbreaking initiative is poised to boost transparency, efficiency, and competitiveness within Abu Dhabi’s pharmaceutical landscape, while also supporting the UAE’s broader objectives in economic and health security.
