Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed support for the key “principles” outlined in a revamped plan by the United States designed to culminate the long-standing conflict with Russia. In his daily address on Tuesday, Zelensky indicated that this updated framework could pave the way for “deeper agreements” in the future.
The newly revised plan emerges following significant critiques of the previous version, which was viewed as overly accommodating to Moscow. While the specifics of the revised proposal remain confidential, Ukraine has thoroughly assessed its core elements. Zelensky emphasized that these new principles could lay the groundwork for serious negotiations, expressing optimism for “active collaboration” from Washington and direct involvement from US President Donald Trump.
Zelensky remarked on the critical role of the United States, asserting that “much depends on America,” given that Russia closely monitors US strength and decision-making. Discussions between US and Russian officials are also ongoing in Abu Dhabi, indicating persistent diplomatic engagement.
Earlier on the same day, Zelensky informed Ukraine's allies that the nation is ready to advance under the “framework” created in conjunction with the US during Geneva talks. He detailed that this framework is primed for in-depth negotiation; however, some “sensitive issues” warrant additional dialogue. Zelensky also conveyed his eagerness to meet President Trump to address these concerns.
The Ukrainian leader urged European countries to take an active role in the negotiations, asserting that any significant security decisions regarding Europe must include European leaders. He stressed that a united approach between the US, Europe, and Ukraine is crucial for establishing a stable and enduring agreement.
The revised plan is anticipated to steer the next set of discussions aimed at terminating the conflict, even as the timeline for the full document's official release remains uncertain.
