The Zayed National Museum, representing the UAE's national heritage, has proudly introduced its May Learning and Public Engagement Programme. This initiative encourages visitors to delve into the rich history, culture, and traditions of the UAE through engaging tours, workshops, and interactive educational experiences.
A standout event this month is “A Dive into Pearling”, a seasonal program celebrating the cultural significance of pearl diving in the UAE. Visitors can participate in immersive tours and creative workshops, learning about the preparation, teamwork, and local traditions that define coastal communities.
On May 6, the museum will honor the 50th anniversary of the unification of the UAE Armed Forces, a pivotal moment in the nation’s journey. The celebration will include performances, workshops, and educational tours that embody unity and national pride, highlighted by a special Al Azi performance by Hamad Al Amri at 6pm.
In recognition of International Museum Day, the museum will host an exciting weekend event from May 16 to 18, featuring creative workshops and live performances designed to showcase the vital role museums play in bridging cultures and fostering community connections.
During Eid Al Adha, the museum will celebrate with “The Joy of Eid” program on the first day of Eid. Attendees can enjoy cultural performances, family-oriented activities, and hands-on experiences that highlight Eid traditions prevalent throughout the Emirates.
The museum will further its outreach with the ongoing “From Museum to Community” project, featuring roadshows in Al Ain, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah to foster community interactions and engagement with cultural experts.
Commitment to accessibility and inclusion is a core focus of the museum's offerings. The Access Programmes provide unique experiences such as the UAE History Tour led by Emirati experts, storytelling tours in galleries like “By Our Coasts” and “To Our Roots”, and specialized offerings like the Quiet Morning for a peaceful environment. The Al Dhuha Hour: Traditional Tassels program, tailored for senior citizens and individuals with dementia, combines guided tours with creative workshops.
Throughout May, guests can engage in ongoing tours like A Walk Through Our History (with availability in Emirati Sign Language) and A Walk Among Our Wings. Family-friendly workshops such as Oasis Weaving, Build Your Museum, Create Your Calming Necklace, and Tree of Values are also available.
Additionally, the museum presents the Al Bahara on-site learning programme, offering hands-on sessions for students and teachers focusing on the UAE's maritime culture, including skills in boat-building and pearling traditions.
