Yas Marina Circuit Enhances Emirati Motorsport Development

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Yas Marina Circuit is elevating its status as a premier destination for motorsport and community interaction by hosting over 180 events annually. These range from entry-level karting to prestigious competitions such as the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

As mentioned by Mohammed Al Hashemi, Director of Motorsport Programmes and Community Engagement, the “Al Sabq” talent scout initiative has successfully pinpointed emerging Emirati racers. This program, managed by Yas Heat Academy, aims to cultivate racing talent from a young age.

The latest edition of this program took place at Yas Kartzone and partnered with Mercedes-Benz. This year saw participation jump to 26 children aged five to seven, with a commendable showing from young female participants like Ameera Al Mheiri.

The circuit maintains a vibrant schedule with events like the Yas Speed Festival and Yas Super Street Challenge. Community fitness is also a focus through weekly events such as TrainYAS and women-exclusive cycling and running sessions, drawing significant local engagement. These activities are carried out with advanced safety systems to quickly address any emergencies.

Yas Marina Circuit provides a structured development journey for drivers, starting from karting and advancing to single-seater racing. This framework has already facilitated the growth of talents like Rashid Al Dhaheri, who is now affiliated with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Junior Team.

Through these strategic initiatives, the circuit aspires to cultivate a new wave of Emirati drivers ready to compete at the world's premier motorsport events within 15 years.
