Yami Gautam is in high spirits, celebrating the impressive box office success of her new film, Haq, which premiered in theaters on Friday. Co-starring Emraan Hashmi, the film recorded a remarkable 100% increase in earnings on its second day, reflecting strong audience reception and positive buzz.
Yami’s Reaction to Haq’s Success
In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), Yami expressed her appreciation for the film's positive reception. She shared a tweet that praised the film’s box office performance, stating:
“Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi's starrer exhibits a HUGE 100% increase on Day 2 and is anticipated to soar higher on Sunday! GOOD FILMS always find their audience — and #HAQ is proving this without a doubt! The word-of-mouth is truly making a difference!”
Yami responded to the tweet by saying,
“The impact of ‘Word of mouth’. No trickery or gimmicks. Purely from our hearts to the audience. Even from a trade & media standpoint, I sense a lot of optimism that they desire a film like Haq to thrive. It’s a rare occurrence & I will treasure this moment forever.”
An Emotional Connection with Viewers
This expression of gratitude follows a viral video in which a joyful Muslim woman kissed Yami’s hand after viewing Haq, thanking her for depicting a story that inspired her to “keep fighting.” This touching moment resonated with fans and underscored the film's emotional depth.
About Haq
Directed by Suparn Varma, Haq features Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi in lead roles, supported by actors Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Husain, Aseem Hattangady, and Vartika Singh.
By Saturday evening, the film had grossed around ₹7.92 crore, according to preliminary trade reports. Its weekend collection is viewed as a testament to its strong emotional resonance with audiences, especially amidst the plethora of blockbuster commercial films today.
Inspired by a Real-Life Case
Haq draws from the true story of Shah Bano Begum, a Muslim woman whose legal struggle in 1985 resulted in a pivotal Supreme Court ruling that affirmed divorced Muslim women’s rights to maintenance. The film explores her fight for justice and the broader social implications of her case within Indian society.
Previously, Shah Bano Begum’s daughter had sought a stay on the film’s release through the Madhya Pradesh High Court, but the court dismissed the petition, allowing Haq to premiere as scheduled.
A Significant Achievement for Yami
Renowned for her compelling roles in films like Article 370, A Thursday, and Lost, Yami Gautam’s performance in Haq is hailed as one of her most profound and impactful. Both critics and audiences have praised her nuanced portrayal of strength, resilience, and moral integrity.
Yami has consistently conveyed her preference for substantive cinema over superficial glam, and with Haq, she has once again resonated deeply with viewers. Her reflections on the film’s authentic success emphasize her dedication to meaningful storytelling and her profound appreciation for audience support.
