Xiaomi is preparing to expand its flagship smartphone lineup with the launch of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. After unveiling the Xiaomi 17 series earlier, the company has now confirmed that a new Ultra model will arrive soon. The phone is expected to launch first in China later this month and may reach other markets afterward.
One of the biggest highlights of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is its continued partnership with Leica. Xiaomi has confirmed that the upcoming phone will feature a Leica-tuned camera system. This time, the collaboration goes a step further. Xiaomi and Leica have announced that they are moving toward a deeper co-creation model, meaning both brands will work more closely on camera design and performance. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to be the first phone built under this updated partnership.
Launch Timeline and Pricing Expectations
Xiaomi shared an official update on Weibo confirming that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will launch in China next week. While the company has not revealed the exact date, reports suggest the launch could take place between December 22 and December 27. Some industry sources believe the event may happen on December 26, with pre-orders starting a day earlier.
In terms of pricing, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is likely to follow the trend set by the previous Ultra model. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra was launched with a premium price tag, depending on storage and RAM options. Based on this pattern, the new model is also expected to sit firmly in the high-end segment, aimed at users who want top-level performance and camera quality.
Design Changes and Camera Setup
Xiaomi has not officially shown the design of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra yet. However, leaked images of the phone’s back panel have surfaced online. These images suggest a noticeable change in design compared to the previous Ultra model.
The leaked photos show a rectangular camera module placed in the center of the rear panel. This is a shift from the circular camera layout seen on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. The new module is expected to house a quad-camera setup, including a periscope telephoto lens. This design change hints at improved zoom capabilities and a fresh visual identity for the Ultra series.
When it comes to camera hardware, reports suggest the phone will feature a 50-megapixel main camera, a powerful 200-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera. With Leica’s tuning and Xiaomi’s imaging software, the device is expected to focus strongly on photography and video performance.
Performance and Hardware
Under the hood, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. Built on a 3nm process, this processor is designed to deliver better speed, improved efficiency, and stronger AI performance. This makes the phone suitable for gaming, photography, and heavy daily use.
With top-tier hardware, a redesigned camera system, and a stronger Leica partnership, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about flagship phones of the year. As the official launch draws closer, more details are expected to emerge, giving users a clearer picture of what Xiaomi’s next Ultra device has to offer.
