Vijayapura, Karnataka: A minor earthquake registering 3.1 on the Richter scale was recorded in parts of Vijayapura district on Tuesday morning, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported.
The tremor occurred at 07:49:04 IST at a shallow focal depth of 5 km, producing short-lived shaking across the area. Officials confirmed there were no immediate reports of structural damage or casualties.
The NCS posted the event data on X, noting: "EQ of M: 3.1, On: 04/11/2025 07:49:04 IST, Lat: 16.91 N, Long: 75.75 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Vijayapura, Karnataka."
Residents described faint vibrations and a low rumble, but district authorities said inspections found no visible damage. Local officials are continuing to monitor seismic activity and have advised the public to remain calm and follow routine safety guidance.
The small quake follows a much larger 6.3-magnitude earthquake in northern Afghanistan the previous day, an event that caused significant loss of life and widespread injuries and damaged heritage sites including parts of the Blue Mosque in Mazar-e-Sharif.
Other recent seismic events include a 5.8 magnitude shock in northern Chile and a 4.9 magnitude tremor near Sindirgi in western Turkey—Sindirgi's third notable event within three months.
Seismologists say the cluster of recent quakes across Asia and Europe reflects active fault dynamics in several regions. Nonetheless, experts regard the shallow 3.1 event in Vijayapura as minor and not indicative of immediate regional danger.
Authorities have reported no aftershocks so far and have reassured residents that the area remains safe.
