Vietnam's Ambitious Plan for Leading Asian Universities

Vietnam's Ambitious Plan for Leading Asian Universities

Post by : Shakul

Vietnam's government is embarking on a bold initiative to transform select universities in the Southeast region into premier educational institutions within Asia. This approach aims to enhance the quality of higher education, boost global rankings, and align with the nation's long-term developmental aspirations.

The discussion took place during a meeting led by Le Tien Chau, which involved representatives from various ministries and educational establishments to assess the initiative's progress and solidify the implementation timeline.

The Ministry of Education and Training outlines three primary universities for development, specifically Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and Vietnamese-German University. These universities were chosen based on their academic standing, autonomy, and international recognition.

The government's strategy emphasizes alignment with national educational policies and frameworks, aiming to forge robust connections between educational outcomes and industry demands, particularly in technology, finance, healthcare, and innovation sectors.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau underscored the necessity for definitive goals and quantifiable criteria. He pointed out that universities should establish their ranking objectives in accordance with credible global metrics to ensure a clear and consistent assessment among institutions.

The blueprint focuses on three essential components: investment, infrastructure, and supportive policies. Decision-makers are actively ensuring appropriate financial resources are directed to institutions to facilitate the attainment of their aspirations.

By 2030, Vietnam pursues the goal of having no less than eight universities ranked within the top 200 across Asia, with aspirations for at least one to achieve a top 100 status globally in select domains. Officials are optimistic that this initiative will cultivate a knowledgeable workforce while enhancing the nation’s presence in the global education landscape.
