Vietnam Strengthens Support for Veterans Ahead of Reunification

Post by : Shakul

Vietnam is set to launch a comprehensive initiative aimed at bolstering support for its war veterans, martyrs, and those who have contributed to the revolution. This announcement coincides with preparations for the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and national reunification.

The initiative is propelled by an official directive from Pham Thi Thanh Tra, urging the Ministry of Interior alongside local authorities to intensify welfare measures and improve living standards for those benefiting from these policies. The government has reiterated its commitment to long-established strategies honoring contributors to the nation.

Authorities are tasked with ensuring the distribution of commemorative gifts is completed ahead of the April 28, 2026 deadline. Priority will be given to severely injured and ill soldiers receiving care in specialized facilities, ensuring they receive personal visits and support from local leaders.

The effort also includes a meticulous review of individuals affected by chemical exposure during the war. Local administrations are required to identify and assemble lists of those residing in temporary or inadequate housing to facilitate focused assistance and support.

The Prime Minister has highlighted the necessity for efficient and timely administrative processes to recognize eligible individuals and ensure uninterrupted delivery of benefits. Plans are also in motion for the renovation of memorial sites and enhancements to facilities for veterans and their families during the period from 2026 to 2030.

Moreover, there is a call for broad societal involvement to improve both material and spiritual support for these groups. The goal is for all individuals recognized for their services, along with their families, to attain a living standard exceeding the community average by the year 2030.

This initiative underscores Vietnam’s enduring dedication to honoring its war heroes, fortifying their families, and promoting social responsibility at a time of significant historical importance.
