President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has inaugurated the Uzbek Reading Challenge, aiming to enhance literacy and knowledge among the nation's youth. This initiative represents a significant aspect of the growing strategic collaboration between Uzbekistan and the UAE focused on knowledge sharing and modernization of governance.
This program emerged from partnerships involving the UAE's Government Experience Exchange Office and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI).
Modeled after the Arab Reading Challenge, which was launched in 2015 by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, this Uzbek initiative seeks to replicate its predecessor's success. The Arab Reading Challenge has reached over 200 million students worldwide in its decade-long history.
President Mirziyoyev highlighted that Uzbekistan examined some of the leading reading initiatives globally before implementing this program, noting the UAE's model as an exemplary approach to fostering a robust reading culture among young people.
He stressed that the Uzbek Reading Challenge transcends mere competition; it is a substantial investment in the future, believing that encouraging children to read today will lead to a more advanced Uzbekistan tomorrow.
Mirziyoyev also expressed his gratitude to the UAE government and Mohammad Al Gergawi for their support in strengthening bilateral relations.
Mohammad Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Secretary General of MBRGI, reaffirmed the UAE's dedication to deepening cooperation with Uzbekistan under the guidance of leaders Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
He said the launch of the Uzbek Reading Challenge signifies the strong alignment between the two nations in fostering growth through culture, education, and knowledge.
Collaborating with Uzbekistan's Ministry of Education, this initiative is designed to inspire reading habits in students, expand knowledge, and engage them in intellectual pursuits that will benefit their future.
Moreover, the program honors Uzbekistan's illustrious past as a hub of Islamic learning, commemorating eminent scholars such as Imam Al-Bukhari, Imam Al-Tirmidhi, Al-Biruni, Ibn Sina, and Al-Khwarizmi.
By drawing inspiration from historical cities like Samarkand and Bukhara, the challenge intends to reconnect youth with the nation's educational heritage.
In recent years, the partnership between the UAE and Uzbekistan in government experience exchange has flourished. Over 2.8 million individuals in Uzbekistan have participated in training across more than 380 workshops, amassing roughly 16.7 million hours of training in areas including government efficiency, innovation, leadership, and public service.
Furthermore, officials and experts from both nations have facilitated workshops, field trips, and knowledge-sharing events to bolster development projects and reinforce bilateral collaboration.
