The upgrade at Taman Persekutuan Lembah Kiara in Taman Tun Dr Ismail is on the verge of completion, with authorities announcing a likely reopening in June. Currently, the project sits at about 98 percent completed, pending the final handover from the contractor.
Officials have stated that a recent retaining wall collapse and mudflow on Jalan Abang Haji Openg will not hinder the park’s timeline. This incident is connected to a separate development within the Bukit Kiara Federal Park administrative zone.
The National Landscape Department reports that remaining tasks involve final adjustments and certain essential components completion before the site officially transfers. After this, a month-long observation phase will begin prior to reopening the park to visitors.
Initial delays occurred as the contractor struggled with revised timelines, particularly concerning pond desilting and related works, which were not completed on time, despite several extensions granted.
Due to these delays, authorities have slapped the contractor with liquidated damages of RM1,200 per day, which total approximately RM76,000, reflecting the serious ramifications of the construction setbacks.
The Drainage and Irrigation Department has now mandated that all remaining work must wrap up by the end of April. Following completion, a series of safety and quality evaluations will take place during the observation period.
The RM6 million upgrade began in July 2024 and includes significant enhancements, such as stream restoration, pond rehabilitation, sediment basin improvements, along with upgrading railings and lighting. These changes aim to bolster the park’s ecological sustainability and overall visitor experience.
As it stands, only areas of the park not impacted by construction are accessible to the public. Officials assure that upon full reopening, visitors will enjoy improved amenities and a safer environment.
