The Raja Saab: Prabhas' Film Misses Box Office Mark with ₹200 Crore

Post by : Mina Rahman

The Raja Saab, starring Prabhas, has emerged as a major box office disappointment. It opened strongly with ₹100 crore worldwide, but the film's momentum vanished quickly, only managing to exceed the ₹200 crore mark after 10 days—making it the slowest-performing film for Prabhas post-Baahubali.

Fresh anticipation surrounded the film, leading to high hopes for its performance in theaters. Yet, it struggled to retain viewer interest and underperformed even during the crucial Sankranti holiday. The subsequent domestic collection saw a dramatic drop of over 90%, netting just ₹9 crore in its second weekend. The current total domestic earnings are ₹139.25 crore net (₹167 crore gross).

Internationally, the film ticket sales were moderate, accumulating roughly $4 million, largely due to its decent performance in the U.S. By the end of a week in theaters, the worldwide total stands around ₹202 crore.

Compared to Prabhas’ prior box office setbacks like Adipurush and Saaho, which reached the ₹200 crore mark in a mere two days, The Raja Saab’s slow emergence stands out. It took five times longer to achieve this feat, indicating a less favorable audience reaction. Given that Adipurush and Saaho ultimately grossed between ₹390-430 crore, The Raja Saab is anticipated to conclude with far lower earnings.

With a significant production budget estimated at about ₹400 crore, the film is evidently struggling to break even and is likely operating at a substantial loss.

Directed by Maruthi, The Raja Saab was positioned as Prabhas' return to family-oriented cinema after focusing primarily on action films. The cast includes well-known names like Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, Boman Irani, and Zarina Wahab. Despite the high expectations and an impressive lineup, the film garnered mostly unfavorable reviews, which adversely affected its box office outcome.
